Abstract
This study examined the level of awareness among media students in Jordan regarding the ethical dimensions of employing artificial intelligence tools in university education. The study explored students’ patterns of AI usage and measured their cognitive, emotional, and behavioral awareness associated with the ethical and academic use of artificial intelligence. The growing use of artificial intelligence tools in university education has raised ethical and academic concerns related to academic integrity, proper documentation, and responsible use of AI-generated content. It also aimed to identify the extent to which students adhere to academic integrity and proper documentation practices when using AI tools in their university assignments. The study adopted the descriptive approach using the survey method. A questionnaire was administered to a sample of 573 male and female students from media faculties in private Jordanian universities. The findings revealed that the level of AI tool usage among students was moderate, whereas the levels of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral awareness were high. The results further showed that the most common uses of AI tools were searching for information and generating media ideas, while the use of AI in advanced technical and production-related fields, such as audio-visual editing and voice-over generation, was low. In addition, students demonstrated a high awareness of the ethical risks associated with artificial intelligence, alongside a relatively low level of commitment to documenting the use of AI tools in academic assignments.
