Abstract

This research aims to identify the topics covered by Facebook pages regarding the issue of the six prisoners’ liberation. It deals with the negative impact of rumors on the Palestinian public’s attitudes towards the issue of the six prisoners’ liberation on Facebook through analyzing the content of the pages. In this study, the research used the content analysis tool; the sample of the study included five pages that dealt with the issue of the six prisoners who liberated themselves through a tunnel under Gilboa prison. The research deployed the theory of social responsibility and relied on the “descriptive survey” to examine the content of Facebook pages. The research found that Facebook pages relied heavily on unknown sources with regard to this issue with a percentage of (100%); in addition, it found that Facebook pages relied on Israeli sources with a percentage of (50%). Based on these results, the researchers recommended that the editors of Facebook pages should rely on official sources in transmitting news, as well as avoid conveying news from Israeli sources, which ultimately leads to strife.
