This study aimed at identifying the reflection of media academic education on professional practice.
The study adopted the audience survey method. A questionnaire was distributed to an available
sample of (102) professionals in Jordanian media institutions who hold a media certificate. The study’s
results showed that the primary academic education of media professionals was represented in: “the
predominance of theoretical aspects over practical aspects in academic courses,” with a mean of
(4.30). In contrast, the media skills and practical professional training of professionals in Jordan’s
media institutions were represented in: “the reflection of media training on the professional
performance of journalists” with a mean of (4.01). Concerning the most important reflections of
academic education on the professional practice of media professionals were: “academic training
through practical/training courses is important in developing skills and professional practice,” with a
mean of (4.10). The study concluded that the Faculties of media are now confronted with the
imperative of developing their curricula and plans to keep pace with the demands and needs of the
media labor market by focusing on the practical aspects rather than the theoretical aspects, involving
media professionals in the teaching process, as well as coordinating between media faculties and
media institutions to assess the reality of the media labor market and the outputs of the media colleges
and develop proposals that contribute to improving academic qualification in the media colleges.
